Polyester polyols are usually made by condensing (or transesterifying) organic dicarboxylic acids (anhydrides or esters) with polyols (including diols) or by polymerizing lactones with polyols. Examples of the dibasic acid include phthalic acid or phthalic anhydride or an ester thereof, adipic acid, and halophthalic acid. Examples of the polyhydric alcohol include ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, diethylene glycol, trimethylolpropane, and pentaerythritol. Different varieties of polyester polyols due to different types or different preparation processes, the nature is not the same, for polyester polyols more important indicators are hydroxyl value, acid value, moisture, viscosity, molecular weight, density and chroma.
